USUI REIKI

"As running water smoothes the jagged edges of a rock until it is small enough to roll

away, Reiki flows to the areas of need soothing pain and supporting the body's natural

ability to heal itself."

- The Reiki Association.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a safe, gentle, non-intrusive hands-on healing technique used to activate the natural healing processes of the body and restore physical and emotional well-being.

Background

Reiki was developed (or re-discovered) during the latter half of the 19th century in Japan by Dr. Mikao Usui. Reiki is Japanese for 'universal life force energy' and is also a word used to describe a system of natural healing.

Today Reiki is a Group 2 complementary therapy as stated in the House of Lords published report of 2000.  It is increasingly used in healthcare alongside conventional or complementary treatments and often helps during recovery.

This healing art is taught by Reiki masters/teachers who have trained in the tradition passed on in person from master to student.

How Reiki helps?

Reiki treats the whole person rather than specific symptoms. Reiki is a holistic system for balancing, healing and harmonising all aspects of the person – body, mind, and spirit. Therefore Reiki can:

  • be comforting at times of life challenges: Reiki treatments can support you with feelings of peace, centeredness and an ability to cope better with the challenges of life.

  • support during pregnancy.

  • be relaxing for children.

  • be reassuring for pets.

  • support individuals with terminal illness and be helpful at the end of life.

  • personal development: Reiki is a wonderful tool for personal growth and development.

The Reiki Treatment

Reiki is given with the recipient remaining clothed on a therapy couch or on a chair. The practitioner gently

places their hands in a series on non-intrusive positions on or near the body. There is not massage or

manipulation involved.

The treatment normally takes around 1hr . A Reiki practitioner is not trained in diagnosis and will not

predict any specific outcome from treatment. Always consult your doctor about your symptoms.

Contraindications

There are no known contra-indications for Reiki. It is a non-intrusive treatment that can be delivered in a variety of settings and requires no special equipment.

How much Reiki do I need?

A Reiki treatment is a process and it depends of the client's needs. It is always best to discuss this with the practitioner. For long standing issues, a series of sessions may be beneficial, otherwise a single session may be enough.
